Transforming Financial Decision-Making Through AI and Governance
CoAct supports employment and training services across Australia in an increasingly cost-constrained environment. With growing reporting complexity, pressure on resources and increasing demand from service partners, CoAct partnered with Argenti to define its AI strategy, establish governance foundations and modernise financial modelling to enable sustainable growth without adding significant operational overhead.

THE CHALLENGE
CoAct operates in a highly regulated environment where reporting obligations, governance requirements and service expectations continue to grow. At the same time, margins across the sector are under increasing pressure, limiting the ability to simply add more people to solve operational challenges.
Many critical reporting and financial modelling processes relied on Excel-based models and disconnected reporting tools. These approaches created manual effort, key-person dependency, auditability concerns and limitations in the sophistication of insights available to leadership.
CoAct recognised that artificial intelligence could help improve efficiency and decision making, but lacked the governance foundations, organisational alignment and roadmap required to move forward with confidence.
WHAT ARGENTI DID
Argenti worked closely with CoAct executives and business leaders to define a practical and responsible approach to AI adoption.
The engagement began with a governance-first approach, helping CoAct establish an AI governance framework incorporating ethical considerations, risk management practices and government guardrails. This provided leadership and the Board with confidence that future AI investments could be pursued responsibly and safely.
Argenti then facilitated workshops across CoAct's leadership team to improve AI literacy, align stakeholders on business priorities and identify the initiatives most likely to deliver value over the next 12 to 18 months. Michael described the approach as practical, participative and accessible to stakeholders with varying levels of AI maturity.
Alongside strategic planning activities, Argenti partnered with CoAct to modernise its finance modelling capability, transitioning from heavily manual Excel-based processes toward a predictive, AI-enabled platform designed to improve reliability, auditability and decision-making confidence.
OUTCOMES ACHIEVED
- Established a governance-first approach to AI adoption and risk management
- Secured Board endorsement for CoAct's AI framework and future AI initiatives
- Improved organisational understanding and literacy around AI opportunities and risks
- Aligned executives and leadership teams around a shared AI vision and priority initiatives
- Reduced dependency on manual spreadsheet-based financial modelling approaches
- Established foundations for more reliable, auditable and scalable financial forecasting and reporting
- Created a pathway to scale services and improve customer value without proportional increases in headcount
- Connected AI investment decisions to measurable business outcomes and operational efficiency goals
"Argenti really focused up front on governance first, or a governance-centred approach to AI. We are now in a position where we've built out our governance framework and our Board was very happy to endorse it, enabling us to move forward with confidence."
